How I work I do both in person coaching and counseling in my Denver office and telephone coaching across the nation. For people outside the Denver metro area please call the number below and I will arrange a time for you to have a half hour free session with me to see how I can help you. I also do tele-classes which are classes taught over the phone via a special bridge line. I will list these as they are developed on the Seminars and Workshop page of this website. Fees I charge from $65 to $90 per session for in person counseling and psychotherapy in my Denver office. This is a sliding fee scale that depends on your income and number of dependents. I charge $90 per session for coaching or $350 per month for on going coaching. My sessions last from one to one and a half hours depending on the need of the client. Clients pay at the time of the session. I take some insurance but it depends on the policy and the situation. Since insurance companies require a mental health diagnostic code in order to file a claim I find most people believe this to be an invasion of their privacy and therefore prefer to be private pay clients. If you have questions about this please feel free to talk to me about it. I normally I charge by the month for phone coaching. My fee is $350 per month for four weekly sessions over the phone. These sessions last approximately 45 minutes. I also encourage weekly emails and these are unlimited. Occasionally I will do one session coaching for situations that can be addressed effectively this way. Telephone coaching is paid in advance either through mailing me a check or through pay pal prior to the first session. Methods First of all, I see my work as a co-venture between me and the person or groups who work with me. What this means is I expect the same level investment of time and energy from each individual as I give myself. I don't fix people or prescribe any kind of medicine or technique that fits over them like a glove. My work is about growth and change and this has to come from within the person. Even with group work, it is each individual person making changes in how they interact with the other members of the group that creates a positive outcome for the whole group. I use various methods but my focus is on using positive psychology. Positive psychology may sound like an old idea and in some ways it is but in recent times pioneers in the field of psychology have created a new way of looking at people. I am a graduate of the Authentic Happiness Coaching program led by Martin Seligman, PhD, the Fox Leadership Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, the Director of the Positive Psychology Network and the former President of the American Psychological Association. Seligman is a pioneer in this new field along with others who have changed the focus of mainline psychology from looking at what's wrong with people to looking at what's right with them. For more information on his work please go to www.authentichappiness.org. I also use the idea of the Law of Attraction which is highlighted in the book and video The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. In addition, I use cognitive re-structuring which means I help you re-structure your way of thinking so that your thoughts are directed at what you want in life and not what you don't want. My philosophy is positive, proactive and forward moving. We look at the past only in an attempt to discover old wounds, patterns of behavior and habitual ways of thinking. We do this in order to heal and or clean up any unresolved or limiting beliefs so we can move forward. My philosophy is that the past is a teacher, not a tyrant who holds you and your life hostage, therefore I help you turn down the volume on what has happened to you in the past by healing the wounds and learning the lesson and then moving forward into a positive today and a happy tomorrow.
