The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator What Knowing Your Personality Type Can Do for You:
What Is The Myers Briggs Type Indicator The MBTI is a personality instrument which was designed by a mother/daughter team, Isabelle Myers and Katherine Briggs. It has been in use for over 50 years. It is used in business, counseling and education. It helps individuals and groups develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others. The instrument identifies preferences in four dichotomies: Introversion/Extraversion, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling and Judging/Perceiving. The various combinations of these preferences produce 16 unique personality types. I use this with individuals, teams and couples to help them understand, appreciate and value both their differences and their similarities. I have found over the years that this instrument, more than any other is "right on" in terms of identifying ones basic personality style. On a personal note I took this instrument in graduate school and it helped me to understand myself in a way that enabled me find my calling - counseling, coaching and seminars - and to make sense of some of the struggles I had encountered in the business world where I often felt like a fish out of water. Now I use what I learned in the business world to help others, but with the help of the MBTI I know that I myself fit better as an entrepreneur and not a nine to fiver. The MBTI and You Most people go through life with either a BLM or a BLT attitude. BLM means "Be like me." These people expect and want everyone to think, feel, gather information and act in the same way that they do. If we disagree then it must be you. The attitude is I know what's right and you should be like me. Of course this can get us in hot water, especially with our spouses, our children, our friends, the boss or subordinates. The other attitude is BLT or "Be like them." This person sees everyone else as being right and they want to be like them. This too can cause problems because it discounts the person's unique talents and characteristics. If the BLT person is an introvert and the boss is an extravert they may feel they are inferior when in reality the introvert brings his or her own quietly thoughtful perspective to the table. With the MBTI one will learn that we are all gifted in our own unique ways and that we need all the types for the world to function. The Process If you would like to take the MBTI please call me and I will arrange to send you the materials. Below is the cost and the time frames for getting your results. Cost - $125 for individuals and $150 for couples (married or dating couples) which includes a 32 page booklet, my own 3-5 page personal interpretation of your basic type, a description of your temperament and ways you can use this information in your work and personal life plus up to an hour long phone session with me. For non Denver residents it takes about two weeks from the time you call to the time you get your results. For Denver residents it takes about a week and I see you in my office here in Denver for an hour long session where I will answer questions and and discuss ways you can use this in your life. For teams the cost is part of the team building process and is a custom built program based on the particular company. See the Team building page for more info on Team Building. Knowing who we are and understanding yourself and others is one of the keys to success in life, so call today and find out if you are who you have always thought you were. You might be surprised at what you learn.
