I do counseling and psychotherapy in my offices in Denver where I meet with clients for sessions that last from one to two hours depending on the needs and issues of the moment.  My focus is active and forward moving.  The areas I specialize in are:

Individuals - For those who are experiencing a life challenge, whether it's health, career, relationship, family or feeling stuck and wanting a change but not knowing how to make that happen, counseling can be the catalyst for change.       

Self Development and Healing - This takes the form of looking at your childhood and the wounds you received and healing them so you can move forward in your life.  I specialize in what I call re-parenting your inner child. 

Singles - Relationship Dynamics - Attracting a loving partner. Why we pick who we do,  I use the Law of Attraction here - like attracts like - If you want a loving, caring, generous, psychologically healthy partner then you must be one yourself.  I will also help you see how your beliefs, unconscious and yet powerful are at work picking your partners for you.  I help you uncover these beliefs and create new ones that bring love into your life.  I will also help you with Dating Strategies - A life partner is the most significant decision we'll ever make and yet most of us will go out into the dating world like innocent lambs.  Without turning you into a "dating cop" I will help you be on the lookout for Red Flags, Green Lights and when to move forward and when to say no. 

Couples - I help couples uncover the unconscious but powerful bargain each has made with each other and how this works in the beginning but is not a model that works long term.  I use Hal and Sidra Stone's Embracing Each Other and Harville Hendrix's Keeping the Love You Find here as my model for working with couples.  I also work with couples on male/female communication styles and how to use your differences to improve your relationship rather than create tension and misunderstanding. I help the couple understand each other from a biological and brain chemistry perspective so that each appreciates the other and stops having a BLM (be like me) attitude. 

Divorce Decision Making and Divorce Recovery - Although I believe in the sacredness of marriage I also know that not all marriages are made in heaven.  Sometimes a decision needs to be made whether to stay or leave a partner.  I can help you make this decision.  Working together we I can help you decide if your marriage can be saved and then I will help you with re-building that marriage. If the decision is to leave and get a divorce I can help you negotiate this difficult passage while you create a new life for yourself. 

Life Transitions - Mid Life Crisis - Whether it's the loss of a loved one or the loss of a relationship, a layoff from a job, a major career dissatisfaction, retirement or simply that place where you wonder "Is that all there is?"  I can help you find your way. 

My Methods and Philosophy

First, and foremost it's a co-venture. I work With You to help you become your best self.  I do not fix people or heal them with magic bullets or quick fixes.  Instead I facilitate the process of bringing out your inner power and your Core Genius  The power is within every individual and is there waiting to be found.  I help you find it.   

I use the concepts of Positive Psychology, Cognitive Therapy and Personality Styles (Myers-Briggs Type Inventory) which means I look at what's right with you first and help you see your strengths and talents, I then help you change how you think about yourself and your life.  I help you identify your chronic negative thoughts.  All of us have a kind of "elevator music" playing at a barely discernable level constantly in our heads, much like the music you hear in the supermarket - it's there but basically not in your immediate consciousness.  This "music" is the on-going thoughts that run through your head as you make your daily round.  These thoughts are the building blocks of how you feel about your life.  I help you identify these and then change them to positive, affirming, logical ones so that this elevator music becomes positive and affirming.  

I also help you identify your self limiting beliefs.  For example if you feel that "Nothing I ever do works out." or "That's the story of my life."  Then guess what?  Those thoughts become the script for your life.  These thoughts become a self fulfilling prophecy. 

I use several tools in this endeavor and I teach you ways to use these tools in your daily life.  The most important tool is the ability to dispute negative self talk and to change it to logical, optimistic self talk. 

Another thing I do is help you learn how to connect the dots in your life.  Many people go through life not seeing  how the things they do are connected and how one thing can lead to another.  I call this Pattern Recognition.  We all have self defeating patterns that are often hard to see from within the confines of your daily life.  We change jobs or we change partners but still find ourselves miserable or dealing with the same old thing.  The job is different and the new partner is different but the feelings are the same.  How did this happen?  This is where an unbiased observer can help you identify and change this pattern.
